Oxide Ghosts Screening and Q&A

Chump's x Margate Film Festival: Oxide Ghosts - The Brass Eye Tapes: Screening and Q&A with Michael Cumming and Stewart Lee Michael Cumming’s acclaimed Brass Eye documentary ‘Oxide Ghosts’ celebrates the legendary comedy series. After the success of sell-out tours in 2017, 2022 & 2024, the film is currently only available at one-off events and festivals. Made from hundreds of hours of unseen and behind the scenes footage from his personal archive, Oxide Ghosts shares insights into the process of making the cult TV series Brass Eye. Michael directed the series and pilots and, over a two-year period, witnessed the highs and lows from a very personal perspective. The film carries the blessing of Chris Morris and provides a unique glimpse of his extraordinary working practices. At this special show, in his introductions and post film Q&A (featuring Stewart Lee), Michael both builds and shatters Brass Eye myths. Event duration: 100mins approximately. King Rocker Screening and Q&A

Chump's x Margate Film Festival: King Rocker - Screening and Q&A with Michael Cumming and Stewart Lee Comedian Stewart Lee and director Michael Cumming (Brass Eye, Toast of London), investigate a missing piece of punk history: Robert Lloyd, best known for fronting cult Birmingham bands The Prefects and The Nightingales, has survived under the radar for over four decades. But how, if at all, does Robert want to be remembered? The anti-rockumentary King Rocker weaves the story of Birmingham’s undervalued underdog autodidact into that of the city’s forgotten public sculpture of King Kong, eschewing the celebrity interview and archive-raid approach for a free-associating bricolage of Indian food, bewildered chefs, vegetable gardening, prescription medicines, pop stardom and pop art. Featuring: Frank Skinner, Nigel Slater, Robin Askwith, Samira Ahmed, John Peel, Gina Birch, Marc Riley, Danny Fields, John Taylor, Paul Morley, Fuzzbox, Kevin Eldon, Nish Kumar, Bridget Christie, Andrew O’Neill, Seann Walsh, Paul Putner, Steve Beresford and more Event duration: 130mins approximately. This is a comedy/theatre/spoken word show about eyes when they are open and eyes when they are shut. With this show I wanted to explore what I could do to myself and others with language when eyes are open and when they are shut. After writing ten shows on specific themes including the colour yellow in ‘The Yellow Show’, the sky in ‘The Sky Show’ and myself in ‘The Rob Auton Show’ I wanted to think about what makes me open my eyes and what makes me shut my eyes. I did about 40 work in progresses of it and then did it at the Edinburgh Festival for the month. It would be great to see you if you’re about? In the year 2022 AD something momentous changed for Paul, and in this show he will reveal how he discovered the secret of life on the outskirts of Lancaster.* Inevitably he does get distracted by King Tutankhamun, the House of Lords, Sir Cliff Richard, officious lollipop ladies and what Jesus might have achieved if he’d been a plumber.
